L'ARS.Services offers the biomedical scientific community its full repertoire of knowledge about biomedical data entry and management and related statistical analysis.
This platform is housed at IMIM in Barcelona (URLEC-IMIM, RD06/0009/0000) and consists of a latest-generation Teleform® system supported by data-managers with expertise in relational databases. The data are automatically converted into a database format that is updated with each new report form received.
The database characteristics include the possibility of designing data collection forms that can be completed on paper, electronically, online, by email, or by fax. This makes it extraordinarily easier to conduct studies that recruit participants from multiple centres. For electronic data formats, it is possible to control for the validity of the values submitted, implement pull-down menus, and other sophisticated options. Human intervention is necessary only to verify data when OCR interpretation of paper forms is required. Other services offered include the possibility of checking the status of subject recruitment, as often as desired, in graphical and numeric formats.
Before a study begins, a team of biostatisticians supports researchers as they choose the best design for data analysis and calculate the sample size required. The biostatistics team uses the R software, a free programming language and software environment that is well recognized as a professional statistical analysis system with impressive capacity to instantly generate crisp, clear reports, diagrams and tables, which are then automatically sent to the email addresses you provide, as often as you have requested.
