Está formado por un equipo de investigadores en Cardiología Clínica e Intervencionista. El principal objetivo es el desarrollo de proyectos de investigación clínica en la línea cardiovascular que aborden problemas asistenciales actuales de forma que sus conclusiones tengan aplicación práctica en el Sistema Nacional de Salud.

Se pueden concretar 2 líneas de investigación:

• Síndrome coronario agudo. En estos últimos años se han desarrollado estudios sobre estratificación del riesgo en esta población, especialmente en el subgrupo de pacientes con dolor torácico y troponina normal. De cara al futuro se sigue con esta línea analizando las aportaciones de la troponina ultrasensible, y se han comenzado proyectos sobre el impacto de la comorbilidad y del estado de fragilidad en el manejo y pronóstico de los síndromes coronarios agudos.

• Insuficiencia cardíaca. Se ha estudiado el valor de diferentes biomarcardores (péptidos natriuréticos y CA125) en el pronóstico de pacientes ingresados por insuficiencia cardíaca aguda. Las líneas abiertas futuras van a investigar la estrategia del tratamiento farmacológico guiado por la respuesta a estos biomarcadores, así como la utilidad de la bioimpedancia para la estratificación del riesgo y guía para el tratamiento.
